Local play educates young locals

Cast of 'Angels With Manky Faces'

We recently sponsored a performance of Moston Active Drama’s sell-out production ‘Angels With Manky Faces’ for young locals at the Turkey Lane & Monsall Community Centre.

From the streets to the stage

‘Angels With Manky Faces’ is inspired by the best-selling book ‘The Gangs Of Manchester’ by Andrew Davies. It tells the story of the ‘Scuttlers’ – gangs of youths who terrorised our city’s streets in the late 19th century.

An enjoyable education

Not only is the play packed with Mancunian humour and swagger, it also shows the destructive consequences of gang culture. So, after its successful run at the Manchester Library Theatre, we thought it would be a fantastic if young people in our area could see it too.

Fantastic prevention

Julie Wilson, our Head of Neighbourhood Services for the Fourways area, said: ‘Housing organisations are often known more for their enforcement role when it comes to clamping down on crime and anti-social behaviour. We thought this would be a really fun way of taking preventative action by educating our young people against the perils of violence and gang culture. Plus, it’s a fantastic opportunity to introduce them to the fantastic world of theatre!’
