Christmas Blessings

Counting her winnings: Blessings shows off her £50 book-token prize.

Primary school children from around North Manchester have been getting creative for our Design a Christmas Card competition.

Two hundred pupils entered; all hoping their design would be chosen as the official Northwards Housing Christmas card.

Year six pupil Blessings Nyathi from St. Edmunds RC primary school, Monsall came top of the pile. Her design will bring seasonal cheer to thousands of residents of North Manchester.

Blessings was presented with £50 in book tokens as a thank-you for her colourful contribution and St. Edmunds will receive a donation of £150 from Northwards Housing.

Unwrap Christmas

Last Christmas, we spent £300 sending out greetings cards. This year we're sending out an 'e-card' instead (an electronic version of Blessings' design), and donating the money we save to the Oxfam Unwrapped campaign, which improves the lives of people in the Third World.

Our £300 could be spent on:

  • 15 water filters - providing communities with clean and safe water; or
  • 10 school desk and chair sets - helping communities establish school rooms; or
  • 12 goats - providing fertiliser and milk to drink and sell; or
  • 42 pairs of reading glasses - giving adults the chance to learn to read, and promoting the importance of reading
