Gas safety checks

A gas safety check could save your life

Once a year, we must do a free gas safety check in your home.

We have to do it by law, but it could save your life.

Every year in the UK, 30 people are killed and many others made ill by carbon monoxide poisoning from faulty gas appliances like fires and boilers. Don’t take the risk.

What does a gas safety check involve?

We will come and service any gas appliances we’ve installed in your home.

We will also check the safety of any gas appliances you’ve bought yourself. We can service these for you too if you like, but for a fee – contact us for details.

The whole thing usually takes less than an hour.

When will you do it?

We’ll write to you before your safety check to let you know when we’re going to come. If the date is no good, we can arrange for a better time, including Saturday mornings and Wednesday evenings.

What happens if I don’t let you in?

If you keep missing the appointment, we will force our way in to your home to do the check. This is expensive to do, and we will charge you for it.

This would be a last resort, but we must carry out the safety check. If we didn’t, we would be breaking the law.

To say thanks to all those tenants who keep their first appointment with us, we enter their name into a prize draw. Every three months, someone wins £50 shopping vouchers.

What if I’m a leaseholder?

You are responsible for the safety of all gas appliances in your home, unless you share a boiler with a Northwards tenant.

If you share a boiler, we will service your property and the cost will be included in your service charge.

If you don’t, we can offer you the service at a competitive price – contact us for details.
