(Holiday hijinks at Manchester Communication Academy)
Northwards Housing’s Eric Hobin Fund gives money to help lots of good things going on in the community. Over the summer, it helped make sure that all kids at a holiday club in Harpurhey got a free lunch. What might it help you to do?
Our friends at the Manchester Communication Academy (MCA) have been running holiday clubs for years, putting on a range of activities for local children in a safe and secure environment.
Previously, children were asked to bring a packed lunch along to the holiday club, but some families were finding it difficult to provide this every day.
So in stepped the Audacious Foundation - a community organisation built to help address issues faced by the region including poverty, homelessness and family challenges.
They provided healthy packed lunches for everyone attending the MCA holiday club, meaning more children could come and join in the fun. They gave out 2,600 lunches in all, feeding around 200 kids per day.
The Audacious Foundation applied for a grant from our Eric Hobin Fund to help pay for the lunches; healthy sandwiches, freshly made at a local bakery.
The Eric Hobin Community Sponsorship Fund has grants of up to £500 available to anyone who either lives or works in north Manchester and has an idea to benefit the area. The fund has helped all sorts of community groups, from dance troupes to youth football teams.
