We have had to make a number of changes in how we do things and our staff have been working hard to make these work.
We’re still very much open for business, even if our offices remain closed and we can’t do everything that we normally would (and things are sometimes taking a little longer to get done than they normally would).
Helping the most vulnerable
We’re working with colleagues in Manchester City Council and voluntary groups to support people struggling as a result of the current situation. This includes contacting vulnerable households and checking whether they need extra help. Wherever possible, our staff are volunteering with local groups providing support in the community, and "doing their bit" in helping local people get through the current crisis.
We are continuing to check in on tenants in our retirement schemes and are carrying out regular building checks to make sure that schemes are clean and safe. We are also carrying out regular checks and cleaning in our high-rise blocks.
With repairs, we are concentrating on emergencies and essential servicing for the time being. We are grateful to our customers for being understanding about this.
With improvement works, we have been finishing off work we started in people’s homes and making sure that sites have been left safe where we have had to put work on hold. Staff have switched to planning future schemes so that as many of these as possible are ready when the current situation ends and work is able to start again.
With rehousing and lettings, we have still been carrying out background work processing and updating applications, dealing with enquiries, advertising empty homes and shortlisting prospective tenants. Like other housing providers, we put a temporary hold on empty homes works and lettings when restrictions on movement were brought in. But we’re now working with other housing providers and our repairs contractor to look at whether we are able to let some homes to people in the most urgent need. We hope to be able to start doing that soon.
We are collecting rent as normal, but our teams are providing help and advice to people contacting us to say they are struggling to pay because of the current situation. Find out more about how we may be able to support you.
