Northwards & the City Council
Building on successful services
Northwards Housing follows tried-and-trusted City Council
policies - on vital things like rehousing and anti-social behaviour.
But we put them into practice in a way that works for North
Manchester tenants.
So we:
- keep to City Council local rehousing policies - for example reserving
some properties for certain age groups to meet different needs.
- have built on Manchester City Council's excellent track record of
tackling crime and anti-social behaviour, and working with potential
troublemakers to prevent problems. We tap into
the council's expert team, and work closely with the police, mediation
services and other expert organisations to tackle neighbourhood
problems.
- follow City Council rent-collection policies - giving support and
advice to tenants with genuine debt problems, but taking tough action
against persistent non-payers.
- work closely with local people who want to take more control of
managing their own estates through tenant management organisations
(TMOs), and continue to support and fund tenant and resident groups.
- follow the principals of the City Council's clear and open official complaints
procedure that has helped people cut through red tape and get problems
sorted out much more easily - we investigate, take action and learn
lessons if things go wrong.
Northwards Housing tenants benefit from the regeneration of
the whole
North Manchester area. Although this is not specifically
about housing, it is improving wider community needs for things like
education, health, crime and safety, and employment.
Our investment and improvements fit in with this wider regeneration, so
that you and your neighbours get the most out of the area's economic, social and
cultural improvements.
