People barred from rehousing

What happens if you are barred?

  1. We will write to you if your name goes on our Rehousing Review List telling you why you're on and what you must do to get off the list.
If you're applying to us for a home, being on the Rehousing Review List has a very serious effect because we would not allow you on the Housing Register of people we offer homes to.
  2. If your name appears on our Rehousing Review List, and you are applying for rehousing, we will tell you straight away if we decide not to include you on the Housing Register - we will write to you about our decision.
If your name appears on our Rehousing Review List, and you have already applied for rehousing, we will tell you before we remove you from the Housing Register and we will write to tell you about our decision.
If you do not receive this decision letter within a week of making your rehousing application, contact Northwards on 03000 123 123. We'll arrange for you to collect a copy of the letter.
You must collect this letter within 28 days of our decision not to include you on the Housing Register or you will lose your right to ask for a review of our decision.
  3. Our decision letter will tell you exactly why you are not allowed on the Housing Register.
If you disagree with our decision you must ask for a review - in writing - within 21 days of receiving the letter.
  4. Your review will be done by staff who were not involved in the original decision to keep you off the Housing Register.
  5. The reviewing officer will send you a letter inviting you to make comments by a certain date - called the 'review date'. We may invite you to an interview.
If you do not receive this letter within 14 days of requesting a review you must contact Northwards on 03000 123 123. If you don't do this, you may lose your right to have a review.
  6. You must send your comments to us by the review date in the reviewing officer's letter. If you don't, we will carry out the review anyway. Your review probably won't succeed unless you tell us why you disagree with our decision.
You can get a solicitor, advice worker, or someone else to write your comments - as long as you sign your name on the comments to show you agree with them.
  7. You must include everything relevant in your comments. If you believe our records are wrong - send us documents to prove your case.
  8. If you agree with our reason for keeping you off the Housing Register, but want to put things right, please tell us. The reviewing officer will tell you what you need to do next.
  9. On the review date - which will be within eight weeks of the date you requested it - the reviewing officer will look at your comments and our records.
Usually they will make a decision straight away. If not, they will write to you again for more information or asking for more time to make the decision.
  10. When the reviewing officer has made a decision they will write to tell you.
If you do not receive a decision letter within 14 days of the review date, contact Northwards on 03000 123 123 to arrange to collect a copy.
  11. The reviewing officer's decision is final but you can apply for rehousing again in the future, and we will review our decision again.
