Newton Heath is about three miles north-east of the city centre. It is on the south side of Oldham Road, from Ten Acre Lane at the city centre end, to the border with Oldham borough, just past Droyslden Road. Oldham Road is a major route into Manchester from Lancashire, so transport links are excellent.
Most homes are within walking distance of Oldham Road (although it's three quarters of a mile for people living in the southern edge of the area). Oldham Road has a variety of shops, supermarkets and a local precinct. Other good shops are just a short bus ride away in Failsworth, and there are frequent buses down Oldham Road to the vibrant city centre, with its shopping, leisure and entertainment. There is a train station at Dean Lane (just over Oldham Road) with regular trains to Manchester and Oldham. This could be converted for Metrolink trams to give a faster, more frequent service.
The north-western corner of the area (around the Oldham Road/Ten Acre Lane junction) is only half a mile from the new Central Manchester Business park - an exciting venture that is boosting the local economy and offering many new jobs. And it's only a mile from the centre of Newton Heath to the City of Manchester stadium and other sporting and recreational facilities in Eastlands.
