Higher Blackley is about five miles north of the city centre. It is on both sides of a two mile stretch of Victoria Avenue, between Rochdale Road in the east and Heaton Park in the west. It is close to the M60 motorway around Manchester - so there's good access to other parts of the city and the north west.

Living in Higher Blackley

Higher Blackley is well served for shops and other facilities. There's a good choice of local shops all along Victoria Avenue, with a large Sainsburys supermarket near Heaton Park on the west side of the area, and a smaller supermarket at the Rochdale Road crossroads. There are two post offices as well as banks, doctors and dentists on Victoria Avenue. The local library, with internet access, is half way along Victoria Avenue. The eastern side of the area is just over a mile away from Middleton where there are more shops and local facilities.

There are regular buses on Victoria Avenue and along Rochdale Road to Manchester and to Middleton. It's about two miles to the shops, stalls and banks along Cheetham Hill Road. The vibrant city centre with its shopping, entertainment and leisure facilities is only a 20 minute journey. The Metrolink tram station at Bowker Vale is a mile away from the western side of Higher Blackley.

Homes here are within walking distance of Heaton Park - one of the biggest city parks Europe! It has 10 important historical buildings plus a wide range of activities set in rolling land and woods. There is a farm centre, pets corner, stables and horse riding, donkey hire, horticultural centre, woodland area, boating lake, fishing, golf course, pitch and putt, tennis courts, bowling greens, football pitches, tram museum, paddle pool. It stages the Manchester Show North, summer Fundays and family events.
