Improvements for leaseholders
Leaseholders are people who live in a flat that they bought through
the ‘right to buy’ from Manchester City Council.
Because they own their homes we don’t do internal improvements like new
kitchens or bathrooms. But leaseholders pay us to look after the outside of
their building – roofs and windows for instance – and the communal areas inside.
So we do certain improvements:
In most flats we will:
- replace all single-glazed windows with uPVC double-glazed windows
- repair or replace wooden double-glazed windows
- put in new external doors if the building needs them
- paint all external woodwork, like gates and roof-boards
Depending on a survey we may also:
- replace the roof or part of the roof
- repair or replace drainpipes and gutters
- repoint and clean brick walls, and put in wall ties
- put in new damp course
- repoint or rebuild the chimney
- top up loft insulation to modern standards and add insulation to cavity
walls
- repair or replace outside paths
