Community regeneration: local communities

local communities
Opening doors: the best communities have a mix of people and good local facilities

Investment should help make local neighbourhoods attractive and safe, with a good range of services and amenities to attract new residents. Here are some of things we're doing . . .

Identifying priorities

We are studying estates and neighbourhoods in detail to identify where investment is needed most. We must understand the problems before we work with local people to tackle them.

Creating mixed communities

The best communities have people of different ages, with different incomes and from different backgrounds. A wide choice of good quality homes of various types helps build a mixed community. As well as upgrading all the homes we manage, we work with other housing organisations and developers to offer suitable homes and more choice.

Challenging images and perceptions

Housing estates are sometimes portrayed as problem areas. This has a negative effect on tenants who live there, and discourages new people from moving in. But we're making big strides to change this perception. Our home improvements and upgrades to local environments are increasing the demand for housing, attracting new residents and encouraging investment.
