Congratulations to the North City Youth Activities Group (YAG). They've received a big pat on the back from Manchester City Council's Children's Services department for their efforts and dedication to working with young people.

The work done by the North City YAG was recognised at the council's Awards for Excellence 2007. Despite stiff competition the group walked away with the 'Working Together for Manchester' award.

At a special ceremony on Monday 1 October at Manchester town hall, the group were presented with wine, chocolates and a crystal paperweight, which now has pride of place at Moston youth centre.

Can-do attitude

Cath Keane, community safety co-ordinator said: "I nominated the North City YAG because their positive 'can-do' attitude has resulted in real improvements for the local community. I'm really looking forward to seeing what they have in store for next year."

The North City YAG, set up in 2004, is a voluntary group of various youth activity providers who plan and develop better activities for young people in Harpurhey, Moston and Charlestown. It's currently chaired by our very own youth strategy officer, Ian Gillet; supported by youth services manager, Jenny Wynn.
