It is with deep sadness that we inform you that Vera Salvatore, member of our decision-making Board and Chair of our Riverways Panel, passed away on Saturday 5 April 2008 following a short illness.
Vera's involvement in the community and her efforts to provide a voice to tenants in the area, were clear expressions of her caring nature.
Vera chaired the Riverways Panel since its creation in February 2006 and was a tenant member of our Board from 2007. But she was involved in so much more; through community projects, education and active membership of residents' groups in Newton Heath.
We are indebted to Vera for her excellent work in consultation and steering groups, which led to the creation of Northwards Housing.
Sue Ratchford, Chair of the Board, who worked closely with Vera for many years as a colleague and friend, said: "Vera had a lively personality and a great sense of fun. She will always be remembered for her no-nonsense approach shared with a great sense of humour and compassion."
A strong believer in bringing communities closer together, Vera was passionate about making North Manchester a better place to live. Her positive actions and selfless contribution to the area will ensure that she is both sorely missed and forever remembered by those close to her, and by the local community as a whole.
In keeping with Vera's generous nature and commitment to her community, her family has asked that those wishing to pay their respects with flowers, make a donation to her favourite charity instead.
