It’s Time to Clean Up!

The mess at Mr Lynch's home

A Newton Heath resident has been ordered by the courts to clean up his home.

Why we've taken action

Andrew Lynch of Delaford Walk, Newton Heath ignored repeated requests to tidy his garden and home. The state of the property first came to the our attention in December 2007. The wheelie bins were overflowing and rubbish littered the ground. Despite frequent visits and letters to Mr. Lynch the situation became worse when he failed to report repairs needed to the property.

What the courts have said

An injunction was granted on 24 April 2009 and the court advised that Mr Lynch had 14 days to clean up and must then:

  • keep the garden tidy
  • keep the interior of the property to a reasonable standard of cleanliness
  • report any repairs promptly
  • allow access for repairs/improvements and any further property condition inspections within seven days of access being requested
  • must remove all gas heaters and gas canisters from the property.

Emma Foster, Head of Neighbourhood Services said: "Northwards Housing will not tolerate anyone breaching their tenancy agreement in this way. We will continue to take legal action against any person that refuses to work with us to maintain their property and garden."

The order will remain for the duration of Mr Lynch's tenancy. He was also ordered to pay costs amounting to £1,364.
