Supporting the Sloppy Slipper shop

Ladies getting new slippers

We recently joined forces with the NHS and Getting Active Through Exercise (GATE) to bring the Sloppy Slipper Swap Shop to Higher Blackley and New Moston.

Giving accidents the slip

Over 150 pensioners slipped into something more comfortable when the Sloppy Slipper Swap Shop opened its doors in north Manchester last month. As worn out slippers can cause trips and falls, the Swap Shop gives older residents the chance to trade in their old pairs for brand new ones.

More fancy foot work

The NHS Falls Prevention Team attended to share their expertise, as did the Getting Active Through Exercise (GATE) scheme who ran free taster sessions of special seated exercise classes. Pat Scappaticci, our Head of Retirement and Caretaking Services said, ‘The classes were such a hit that we’re starting up regular exercise sessions with GATE at the Broadmoss Centre in the next few months.’

Next steps

‘It was a really positive event, and so great to see so many people coming through the doors to take advantage of these sturdy new slippers. They were really delighted with them. We’re looking forwarding to holding another Sloppy Slipper campaign elsewhere in north Manchester in the near future.’
