Silver Surfers!

A resident from Duncan Edwards Court using a PC

Residents at Duncan Edwards Court are surfing the information superhighway thanks to a new initiative introduced by Wates Living Space.

WatesWardsWebbers, is designed to bring computers and the internet to the over 50s.

Wates generously donated computer equipment and are now hosting weekly sessions with the residents at Duncan Edwards Court.

Inspired by the recent national “Silver Surfers” initiative, Northwards and Wates decided to go the extra mile by providing regular tuition sessions to get older residents twittering and googling!

Lee Wilbraham, Project Manager for Wates Living Space, said “I’m excited about this project, it’s important to give something back to the community we work in.”

As predicted, the first session was an interesting one! Many of the residents had never even seen, let alone used a computer! So time was spent introducing them all to the mouse. Mr Vincent White had a great time: “It’s marvellous we’ve been given this opportunity to learn something we would never have thought about learning.”

Paul Maidment, Head of Home Improvements, Northwards Housing (Riverways) commented further “It’s fantastic! Not only do the residents benefit from a new computer, thanks to the efforts of Wates staff – providing training – all our residents will soon be emailing, Googling and twittering! A great effort – many thanks!”
