Northwards Housing has teamed up with Manchester City Council and nearly 30 other local not-for-profit landlords to sign up to a special charter to help tackle antisocial behaviour and encourage people to respect their neighbours and community.
The "Respect Standard: Charter for Housing Management" recognises the achievements of landlords that deliver good services; and is a benchmark for those that are striving to improve.
It's all part of a national campaign called Respect (external site); it's about bringing together central government, councils, local agencies, and ultimately every citizen to build a society where we can respect one another - where antisocial behaviour is rare, and tackled effectively, and where communities can live in peace together.
Each landlord has a 'Respect champion' to promote the standard in their own organisation, and to be a clear link to the City Council and the other partners. It means we get a wider picture of problems across north Manchester and the whole city, and can share vital information, and communicate effectively with staff and tenants.
Northwards chief executive Robin Lawler welcomes the move: "We're building a reputation as an organisation that does not shirk from challenging crime and tackling antisocial behaviour. So we're right behind the Government's Respect initiative and this imaginative approach to the problem. We're determined to support communities and help build respect for individuals and neighbourhoods across the Northwards area".
