Getting tough on antisocial behaviour in Newton Heath and Miles Platting.

We're playing a big part in a drive to cut crime and antisocial behaviour in Newton Heath and Miles Platting this week.

Monday 29 October to Friday 2 November is 'Respect Action Week'; more than 20 other organisations, such as Manchester City Council and Greater Manchester Police, are rolling up their sleeves and getting involved!

No stone unturned

Staff from these organisations are patrolling together, asking local residents about their concerns and addressing nuisance and crime issues.

The Fire Service are installing smoke alarms and giving advice in the run-up to Bonfire Night; and trading standards officers are visiting off licences to check that alcohol isn't being sold to under-age children. School attendance officers are carrying out truancy sweeps, and the DVLA are out and about checking tax discs. There will be no stone left unturned!

Our Northwards Wardens and the council's street environment managers are tackling environmental problems such as fly-tipping and dog fouling. Local staff from our Monsall Street office are carrying out warning interviews and taking action on nuisance complaints.

52 weeks a year

"Action weeks like this can make a real difference in reducing crime and antisocial behaviour" says Director of Neighbourhood Services Mike Stevens. "It shows people we're serious about tackling the problems they face. But the work doesn't stop at the end of the week. We're working 52 weeks a year to tackle bad behaviour and help people have more pride in their area".
