Everybody Counts!

Staff and tenants came together to celebrate Manchester Pride August Bank Holiday weekend!

Around 40 volunteers marched in the parade wearing bright orange T-shirts with the slogan “I Count” as part of the annual celebration in Manchester city centre.

The theme of this year’s Pride was Queer’d Science, in memory of Alan Turing, the Manchester scientist who broke some of the most difficult German security codes during the Second World War.

Because we value all our LGB&T employees and customers, we chose to promote a simple message of inclusion – Everybody Counts. It’s a play on the science theme, but it’s also a serious message that we value diversity here at Northwards!

Staff from Northwards’ offices and tenants from across north Manchester joined behind community band Sambangra to march and dance along the route.

We had flags, maracas, and we gave away free whistles to the crowd.

Tara Kelly, equality and community engagement officer at Northwards Housing, said: “Our entry in the Manchester Pride parade was a great success this year!

“We’ve been able to get across a serious message that everyone counts here at Northwards, while still having a really great time. Our eye-catching outfits and the brilliant music by Sambangra got the crowd cheering and the rain stayed away for most of the day!

“Thanks to all the staff and tenants who came out to support this brilliant event.”
