Work has begun on 32 new council homes in Blackley and Charlestown, the first in Manchester in over two decades!
We'll be managing the bungalows, which have been specially designed for older residents, with two adapted for disabled people.
The £4.2 million project is aimed at residents who may currently be living in larger properties but would welcome a move to a smaller home. This in turn will free up larger homes for families.
Designed by architects Bowker Sadler and built by Cruden Construction, the two-bedroom bungalows will include a number of exciting energy efficient features including sustainable timber frames, rainwater harvesting and solar panels on the roofs.
They will be built on Sherwell Road, Plant Hill Road and Jurby Avenue in Higher Blackley and Benmore Road, Fulwood Avenue and Northwold Drive in Charlestown.
Funding for the project is 50 per cent from the government's Homes and Communities Agency and 50 per cent from Manchester City Council’s own resources.
Greig Lees, Head of Regeneration for Northwards, said: “Designed to be fully accessible and flexible, these high quality homes will also meet high environmental standards; using less energy and therefore reducing residents’ fuel bills.”
The homes are expected to be completed by March 2011.
