We recently joined forces with Manchester Working and FD Kitchens to transform the kitchen at Blackley Community Centre. What's more, we all made sure that the transformation didn't cost the centre a penny.
Blackley Community Centre has been providing facilities for the local community for 43 years. However, the years have made their mark on the centre, particularly the kitchen, which has been top of the list for an upgrade for some time. Funding was hard to find. That's where we stepped in with other local organisations and businesses.
Project managed by ourselves, the kitchen was donated by FD Kitchens and fitted free of charge by Manchester Working (with the total cost amounting to just over £7,000).
Three Manchester apprentices installed the kitchen at the centre. Travis Handley, Apprentice Plumber said, 'It really makes me feel good to know that I am making the facilities better for local residents.' A view that was shared by everyone involved, including Blackley councillor, Harry Lyons, who officially opened the kitchen.
