We have evicted someone living illegally in a Northwards home.
Lee Garside had been living at Norbet Walk, Harpurhey, illegally since March 2008. He was asked to leave the property but refused.
We received numerous allegations of antisocial behaviour at the address, and began legal action on 15 April 2008. But Mr Garside again failed to leave.
Sue Ratchford, chair of our decision-making board said: "We take illegal tenancies very seriously. Demand for housing in the area is very high; everybody applying for a home is given a fair and equal service through our rehousing procedure".
On 30 June 2008, Mr. Garside was ordered by the courts to leave the property immediately, but once again ignored the order. On 8 August 2008 we joined forces with Greater Manchester Police, the Northwards Wardens, and a court bailiff to take possession of the property.
Police constable Jeff Pearcey said: "Greater Manchester Police and Northwards will not tolerate illegal tenancies. We will work together to take appropriate action to deal with the problem".
