Our international community

Food and Dance Festival 2009

Hundreds of people gathered at our free Food and Dance Festival in Cheetham Hill last week to celebrate the diversity of our north Manchester neighbourhood.

The world on stage Councillor Naeem Ul Hassan opened the event and talked about celebrating our multi-cultural community. After that, we had plenty of acts from north Manchester’s talented culture, including Bollywood dancers, a Ukrainian dance troupe, traditional Irish music, a gospel choir, and Vietnamese martial artists, V-Trix.

Food for thought

As well as the line up on stage, there was an assortment of food from across the globe. Plus plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained, including face painting, football, henna art and mask making. We even set up a special film booth, just like the Big Brother Diary Room, so everyone could tell us what improvements they’d like to see for the area.

Quality of life

Mike Stevens, our Director of Neighbourhood Services said; “The entertainment was fantastic, the food was tasty and the sun was shining. It’s been another great day for Northwards and the people of north Manchester, everyone has really enjoyed themselves. It was also an excellent way of getting feedback from the community, which will help us to improve the quality of life in north Manchester”.

Big thanks!

Thank you to our partners - Wates Living Space, the Lords Group, Manchester Working Ltd and Johnstone’s paints – for helping to make the day so much fun for everyone!
