Teamwork: the big drop in local crime is a result of working together

Recent figures show a big drop in crime across Manchester. We've played our part in impressive results in the Northwards area.

One of our top priorities is to create safer Northwards neighbourhoods. We team-up with with local people and other organisations who care about this area to help cut crime, reduce the fear of crime, and tackle antisocial behaviour.

Partnership

We’re part of Manchester’s 'Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership' (CDRP) - a collection of agencies that work together to make the city a safer place to live. CDRP has been monitoring crime figures since 2003.

The number of Manchester's recorded crimes in the last year has fallen by more than 22 per cent (14,247 incidents) compared to the CDRP's first year. In north Manchester the results are even better, with the number of incidents down by almost 29 per cent.

Our staff have made a real contribution - for example taking action on antisocial behaviour, and making homes and estates more secure. We’ve helped organise activities for young people and taken part in initiatives such as Respect Action Weeks to tackle problems in particular areas.

Local communities

North Manchester Police Commander Chief Superintendent Gerry Donnellan said: "I am pleased with these results. North Manchester is a fantastic place and we should be proud to be a part of such a vibrant city. Our fight against crime will continue with the help of local organisations and local communities".

Chair of our decision-making board, Sue Ratchford, stressed the importance of keeping up the good work: "These results are down to hard work. Our staff have contributed in lots of ways. We can't be complacent - there's still lots to do - but we've shown what can be done to make north Manchester a safer place".
