We are very sad to announce that the much-loved Councillor Eric Hobin, a valued member of the Northwards Board, died suddenly on 29th March 2007.
Eric was one of a kind. He had a friendly word for everyone he met, a cheerful smile and a good laugh with the people he knew.
He was also a serious hard worker. He was a long time member of the GMB Union and the Manchester City Labour Party and became a member of the Northwards Housing Board in December 2005 when we first started. Throughout his life, Eric fought for workers' rights and for the underdog. He never forgot where he came from or whose side he was on.
Eric was also a real family man and was a dear husband and father to his wife and children. When he did have the time, he loved to go fishing.
He was involved in recruiting the Independent Board Members to Northwards and was a very popular member of the Northwards Board - always passionate about the service given to tenants.
Eric represented the Charlestown ward since 1995, and his care for people and where they lived helped to improve the quality of life of everyone living on the Dam Head, Crosslee and Charlestown estates.
The condolences from the tenants and residents associations, everyone at Northwards Housing, the City Council, Labour Party members and constituents are a real tribute to Eric and his achievements.
We have gained so much from his valued contribution. In Eric's memory, we aim to work with the same spirit and passion that Eric always had. He will be greatly missed.
