Hot curry: Warden Christine Curry showed the way on the Charlestown ice rink
The older generation of Dam Head Residents Association (DAMRA) have followed the inspiring success of their older persons' play area with a new idea - an outdoor ice rink to get those limbs moving!
As part of its campaign to promote healthy lifestyles for all ages, Manchester City Council funded DAMRA, who set up a synthetic ice rink in the middle of Charlestown.
The opening ceremony took place on Friday, 3 October 2008. Peter Penguin and the Charlestown Young People's choir led local school children and families into the weekend's activity.
We provided local Northwards Wardens to make sure the slippery fun was safely enjoyed by all. Warden Christine Curry (pictured) was a real ice-dancing hit.
"We're really proud to be involved with another healthy project for our area" said Joan Fitzgerald, chair of DAMRA. "It's great to see people from across the community getting outdoors and active. When it comes to our health, it's time to get your skates on!"
