Charming Charlestown

Residents from Cartmel Court with Lord Mayor Alison Firth

Residents at Cartmel Court were able to kick back and enjoy the sunshine in August as they celebrated the official opening of their brand new garden.

Lord Mayor, Alison Firth was there to show her support and congratulate the residents on creating an oasis for the senses with trees, flowers, tables, love seats and raised beds with herbs and fruit.

The garden was the brainchild of residents Francis Carroll and Norma Smith, following the success of their 'In Bloom' activities.

The fencing to make a garden was funded by Northwards Housing Fourway’s Panel Capital Environmental Fund. And the hard graft needed to see the project through was provided by the residents at Cartmel Court, with help from the Councils' Environmental Team and the community payback team.

Francis said "All the residents really enjoyed the day and I'm sure they will enjoy this wonderful garden for many years to come and I was so pleased the Lord Mayor could be here to open it".

Julie Wilson from Northwards Housing said, "We have some of the best residents anywhere in the city, they are maintaining the beds beautifully and I take my hat off to them for their imagination and hard work".
