Staff and residents get together in the gardenMoney might not grow on trees, but the Northwards Finance Team are just at home gardening, as they are crunching numbers in the office.
The staff recently ditched their calculators for plant pots and set to work revamping the garden of Joseph Dean Court, a retirement housing scheme in Moston.
The makeover was part of a proposed Northwards Housing volunteer initiative, which could see more and more staff members spending a day outside the office working to benefit the local community.
The Finance Team were the first to get volunteering, preparing the garden for summer and making it look a treat. They got stuck into painting the benches, weeding, planting and making hanging baskets.
The residents were so chuffed with their new look greenery, they invited the team down for a huge spread to say thank you. Moston councillors Rita Tavernor and Henry Cooper also popped round to join the celebrations and cut a giant cake (made by residents) to show their appreciation of the green-fingered financiers.
Alison Foster, Head of Finance, said: “We’re all really pleased that the first Volunteer Day has gone so well. It was really good to get out of the office and so nice to see how our work has benefited the residents. All the other teams are looking forward to doing more work in the community.”
