We're over the moon after winning the ‘Best Recycled Product’ trophy at the National Recycling Awards 2009!
The accolade came after Northwards became the first social housing organisation to use PVC-U technology to create window frames almost totally from recycled materials. Each frame has a recycled content of 98 per cent!
Our pioneering programme, which saw the windows installed in 18 properties on Corris Avenue, Higher Blackley, was praised for not only making the properties more sustainable, but also warmer and more secure for residents.
Elliot Simm, our home improvement service manager, said: “We have made a commitment to manage and maintain our properties, not only better, but as energy efficiently as possible. As part of that commitment, we are replacing all existing single glazed windows with double-glazed PVC-U windows, within almost 13,000 properties that we manage.”
Corris Avenue resident Elaine Ahmed said: “Northwards staff brought round a sample window and it was superb. From that point, I couldn’t wait to get them in. The new windows are far warmer - that’s the biggest direct benefit to me - but they’re also more secure and look just like timber. I’m so delighted!”
