Crumpsall Lane Primary school Junior Wardens ventured out of the classroom in April to lend a hand at Sherdley Court.

Along with Miss Whalley and Ian Gillett, the Junior Wardens visited Sherdley Court retirement housing block in Crumpsall, which is run by our partner Adactus Housing.

The children introduced themselves to the residents before setting off to give the gardens a thorough litter pick. Once everything outside was nice and tidy, they went back inside for a well earned drink and biscuit. The children sat with the residents and talked about their role as Junior Wardens.

This kind of intergenerational activity reaps huge benefits for everyone involved; the children gain a better knowledge of the service provided in residential homes such as this and come to respect the building as somebody’s home and not just a building on the estate.

And the City Council is making grants of up to £200 available to neighbourhood groups who want to organise events on or around Friday May 28.

The Manager of Sherdley Court, Jeannie Nolan, said: “On behalf of the residents, thank you! It was a wonderful afternoon; we’re still talking about it. Thanks for all your hard work to make it such an exciting event for us and letting us be part of something so special as this!
