Q57 When is my bathroom going to be replaced?
Anonymous
A When Northwards was
established, it was promised that our properties would receive either a new bathroom or kitchen
as part of the Decent Homes Programme. When given this choice, the previous tenant in your property chose a new kitchen, and this was installed in 2007.
Pat Glazebrook
Chair of Asset Management Sub Committee
Q56 How is it some people have had both a new kitchen and bathroom fitted while we had to choose?
I chose a kitchen but I would love a new bathroom.
Mrs Sproul, Falsgrave Close, Newton Heath
A Northwards residents get the choice of either a new kitchen or bathroom but not both. This is in line with the promise made to tenants at the time Northwards was established.
Pat Glazebrook
Chair of Asset Management Sub Committee
Q55 Why aren’t there more affordable activities for the youths in my area?
Cecilia Boylan, Daisy Bank, Newton Heath
A There’s a lot going on
to keep youngsters engaged in Newton Heath, including over 50 types
of youth activities taking place six days a week. Although some of
the specialist activities, such as kick-boxing and junior dance
lessons, are in the £2.50 - £3.50 range, many activities within the
area are free or come with a nominal fee. For more information on
various youth activities throughout north Manchester, visit
this section of our website.

Q54 Where do you stand with people who have mental health issues and why
with some housing staff is there a lack of understanding?
Mark Knight, Burnthorpe Avenue, Higher Blackley
A We are aware that some of our tenants have mental health problems.
We recognise that equality of opportunity for disabled people cannot merely
be achieved by treating everyone in the same way, but that we must tailor our services to their individual needs. Northwards
Housing's Single Equality Scheme explains our approach to equality and diversity, and the actions we will take in the next three years to promote
equality, including how we will promote equality for disabled people.
One of the steps we are taking is to better support the needs of tenants with mental health problems. For example, we work in
partnership with the Primary Care Trust to deliver regular training sessions to our employees to raise awareness of the main issues surrounding mental health. We also run a Disability
Forum which provides an opportunity for all our disabled tenants to feedback to us on the services they receive, and to make recommendations on how we can improve our services.
