Q53 Why are recycling bins not available in the high rise blocks?
Anonymous

A Recycling facilities are coming later this year to all our high rise blocks. This is part of a big expansion in recycling which the Council is bringing in across the whole of Manchester. It is already happening in the south of the city, and will be coming to north Manchester later this year. There will be lots of publicity about it - so keep an eye out for this in the local press and Northwards Natter, as well as on the Council and Northwards websites. High rise residents will be consulted about the siting of recycling bins.
Joan Fitzgerald, Chair of Customers and Communities Sub Committee

Q52 Why is it that new garden gates have been put on nearly every neighbour’s gardens around me and I have been by-passed when I know I was down for having a new one?
Anonymous

A We can only afford to replace garden gates which are in very poor condition and beyond economical repair. We do, however, carry out any necessary repairs and repaint them.
Pat Glazebrook, Chair of Resources Sub Committee

Q51 How can we stop the overwhelming amount of pizza leaflets etc. coming through our doors? Most of them end up as litter on our streets.
Elizabeth Bowman, Cecil Road, Higher Blackley

A The best thing to do is put them straight in the recycling bin. Improved recycling facilities are coming to north Manchester later this year, so look out for details on this website, the council website or the local paper.
Joan Fitzgerald, Chair of Customers and Communities Sub Committee

Q50 Why are UPVC front doors not being fitted in the flats on Munn Road to compliment the UPVC windows? The current front doors are not energy efficient as they do not fit properly and cold air gets into the property from the gaps in ill fitted old doors.
Anonymous

A The promise made to residents at the start of the Home Improvement Programme was to fit UPVC double glazing to all single glazed windows, but only to replace doors if they are beyond economical repair, which means that they cannot be repaired and painted. We do not have the money to replace doors that can be repaired. Our surveyors will examine the door and make a decision as to whether we repair or replace the door.
Pat Glazebrook, Chair of Asset Management Sub Committee

Q49 Does our rent money pay for the float at Manchester's (LGBT) Parade?
Mrs E Harrison, Victoria Place, Ancoats

A Northwards Housing is financed mainly by tenants who pay their rent to Manchester City Council and via direct grants from the government. As an organisation that embraces equality and diverse communities, we are proud to support the Manchester Pride Festival in partnership with other housing partners in the city. We also support our LGBT tenants and employees who will be taking part in this years event and encourage any tenants, regardless of their sexual orientation, to come along and celebrate with us the work we are doing in local communities to improve the quality of life for everyone.
Martin McKevitt, Chair of Resources Sub Committee
