Q30 I would
like to know why more modern houses are being modernised before the
property I live in which is about 45 years old? I have been a
council tenant for 45 years.
S Ford Victoria Avenue East Blackley
A A number of the more
modern houses were built in the 1970s and have never been
modernised. However, a number of the older properties were
modernised in the late 1970s. The programme for improvements is
planned to run over the next five years with everyone getting
something done in their home in the first two years.
Richard Lockwood, Chair
Property & Procurement Sub Committee
Q29 Why re-roof some
houses and fit new windows to them too? Why not just spend the money
re-roofing all houses so everyone get something done! Some people
have everything done and others nothing at all! We might not get a
grant then what? No roof or windows?
L McCall Howden Road Higher Blackley
A Northwards Housing has
made a commitment to ensure all properties have double glazed
windows by 2010 and it makes sense to do this at the same time as we
re-roof certain properties, however we don't want to re-roof
properties that don't need it yet.
Richard Lockwood, Chair
Property & Procurement Sub Committee
Q28 Why are the private
houses in the area being modernised before council houses? My walls
and gate are falling to bits.
Mrs Porter Brownson Walk Harpurhey
A
Northwards Housing was set up in December 2005 and will receive its
major funding later this year if the Audit Commission awards us a
minimum of two stars after its inspection in June 2006. Work to the
private properties in Harpurhey is funded from what is known as
Market Renewal Funding which had been available for much longer.
Richard Lockwood, Chair
Property & Procurement Sub Committee

Q26 Double glazing in
the wooden houses on the Mill Estate will prove useless unless other
measures are taken to insulate/update these properties - Do you have
plans to do this?
J Elfallah Roxby Walk New Moston
A We are currently
carrying out work to look at the condition of the properties on the
Mill Estate which will help us when programming future works. The
issue around insulation will be considered as part of this piece of
work.
