Q7 Could you
make sure that my partially sighted friend receives the
Northwards newsletter in large print?
Mrs Carbery of Blackley
A We are committed to
providing information in all formats such as Braille, audio tape,
large print and other languages. A large print copy of the latest
newsletter has been sent to your friend. If you need information in
suitable formats, or you know someone who does,
please let us know.
Martin McKevitt - Chair
Human Resources and Equality sub-committee
Q6 If you believe in equality, why do you
advertise sexist 'women only' events and domestic violence services
for women?
James Monaghan from Blackley
A We take our
responsibility for promoting equality and diversity very seriously,
to serve the needs of the whole community in north Manchester. We
have procedures for dealing with domestic violence and hate crime
for anyone who is affected by this unacceptable behaviour. While men
can be affected by domestic violence, the evidence shows that it is
mainly women who suffer violence from their partners. We will
respond equally to any complaints from men affected by domestic
violence.
Robin Lawler - Chief Executive, Northwards Housing
Q5 We want tidy properties. Why don't you
make it compulsory for each tenant to be responsible for the care
and upkeep of their own gardens and paths?
T. Starr of Newton Heath
A Tenants are
responsible for their gardens. Most people do take care of their
gardens, but we take actions when gardens start to become an
eyesore. It's something we take very seriously. You can
report a problem garden online. We'll come and check it out and,
if necessary, ask the person responsible to tidy it up.
Michelle Blakeley -
Chair Performance and Quality Services sub-committee
Q4 When will we get the lakes at Boggart
Hole Clough cleared of rubbish?
Mr S. Williams of Moston
A Although Northwards
isn't responsible for the upkeep of Boggart Hole Clough, we are
definitely interested in the quality of public parks in north
Manchester. We have passed your enquiry to the Parks Manager at
Boggart Hole Clough who will investigate and respond to you
directly.
Robin Lawler - Chief Executive, Northwards Housing
Q3 Please keep up the
good work! But will you please keep focused on the wishes expressed
by the community?
Christian Igbokwe of New Moston
A Thanks for the vote of
confidence. But rest assured that we'll keep listening to what
residents say about what's important to them and how well we're
doing. We want to keep improving, and we'll only be able to do this
if we listen to our customers. If you have questions, suggestions or
comments - please tell us by calling Northwards on 03000 123 123, or
by visiting your
local Northwards office.
Mike Stevens - Director of Neighbourhood Services
Q2 I moved here nearly
two years ago and still haven't any local friends. Is it okay to
talk to people I don't know?
C Brett from Blackley
A Let's get you on the
right tracks ... North Manchester's ZEST team has loads of
activities in the area that you can take part in. Most of them are
free. They have group sessions in Yoga, card making, relaxation
classes, Salsa dancing and many more. Call ZEST on 0161 277 8808.
You could also speak to your
local tenants group
about getting involved with your neighbourhood. We really encourage
you to get involved in one of these groups, rather than talking to
'just anyone' in the area.
Robin Lawler - Chief Executive, Northwards Housing
Q1 Why can't we pay
our rent by direct debit?
Mary from Blackley
A Good news . . . you
soon can! You already have lots of easy
ways to pay
your rent . . . and from November 2006 you'll be able to pay by
direct debit too. Look out for details and an application form on
this website, and at your local
Northwards office soon.
Harvey Norton - Chair
