On yer bike: Lee Roberts and his fellow wardens are out and about making safer Northwards neighbourhoods
We spent the day with Lee Roberts, to catch a glimpse of a day in the life of a neighbourhood warden.
After a quick brew to kickstart the day, it was clear that wardens rarely have time for break. From eight in the morning until nine at night, six days a week, they patrol the streets, sorting out local problems.
First up was a patrol around Moston and glimpse of the wardens in action. Lee told us about the work they do with local schools, organising events and special projects. He spoke proudly of the children in the area: "Sometimes you get hassle, but then they get to know you, and even run up for a chat."
We pulled over to talk with some youngsters who knew the wardens and clearly respected them. Lee continued: "The more time we spend with them, the more they get out of it. It's a great sense of achievement - just keeping kids off the street or seeing them enjoying themselves and feeling part of the community."
Back at the bustling warden office, reports were being written and plans made to help the community. From hosting regular community events - like litter-picks, graffiti removal and clearing patches of land - our wardens are a welcome, valuable part of the local neighbourhood.
"Of course it can be difficult at times" Lee told us, "but it's really rewarding. I love my job and I feel we're really making a difference."
