Northwards Wardens

Making a better community

Wardens take a tough stance against trouble, but they put a lot into the community too, getting involved in all sorts of events to make neighbourhoods better places.

Examples include:
  • organising clean-up days, planting programmes and children's art and crafts sessions as part of the 'North West In Bloom' event.
  • distributing free 'energy' light bulbs to qualifying residents.
  • hosting or co-hosting regular community events - like litter picks, clean ups, graffiti removal and clearing patches of land.
  • revamping the communal gardens of flats for older people
  • taking part in social events and outings for older residents
  • running a garden tool loan scheme to help people keep their gardens looking good without spending.
Child's play

Wardens  work closely with schools and local children. The aim is to encourage kids to be good members of the community rather than to fall into trouble. The wardens regular children's newsletter publishes work done by local youngsters. It includes safety advice, quizzes and competitions with prizes.

The wardens organize events, like football coaching, in the school holidays to keep children away from trouble and weekly Youth Diversion events such as 'Operation Care' and 'Shimmer & Shine' for teenagers.
