We fill the majority of empty homes quickly. But with hundreds of properties becoming empty each year, it's inevitable that some will stay empty longer than we'd like - often for reasons we can't control.

Homes adapted for a disabled person

Finding the right tenant for a home with special features like walk-in showers, ramps or wider doorways can take longer than usual. Sometimes there's no-one who fits the bill looking for a home in that area. Eventually we may offer a property like this to someone who is not disabled rather than leave it empty indefinitely.

Homes earmarked for older people

Finding suitable tenants for homes with support services for older people can sometimes take longer than average.

Legal action and illegally occupied properties

We must keep within the law. So on rare occasions we may have to wait for a court's permission to enter a home that's been abandoned or occupied by someone not entitled to be there.
