Help with decorating

Are you unable to decorate your home? We may be able to help.

We operate a limited decorating service for some of our tenants who may struggle to decorate themselves.

To qualify for this service:

  • Everyone living in the home must be 75 or over OR
  • Everyone living in the home must be 65 or over and in receipt of Attendance Allowance OR
  • Everyone in the house must be in receipt of higher rate DLA

The household must also be in receipt of Housing Benefit or an occupational pension which pushes them just over the Housing Benefit threshold.

Who does not qualify

  • Tenants who have a person living with them between the ages of 18-65 who is not receipt of higher level DLA.
  • Tenants who would not qualify for the Northwards Xtra draw.
How does the scheme work?
  • A tenant who qualifies for the scheme can have either one larger room (Hall/Stairs/Landing or bedroom/lounge) or two smaller rooms (kitchen/bathroom) decorated every three years.
  • Households can be offered the choice of decorating by a Northwards contractor or a decorating allowance of up to £250.00 in Johnstone’s vouchers per property.
  • If a tenant is under-occupying a property we will not decorate a room that is not used regularly, eg: spare bedroom.

You can apply to join the scheme if you meet the criteria. You are then added to the list and contacted should enough money be available to undertake work in your home. Before contacting you we will check whether you still meet the Northwards Xtra draw criteria. If not, then you will not be contacted. It is your responsibility to make sure you continue to be eligible by keeping to the conditions of your tenancy.

You will be informed within 10 working days of applying if you are eligible to join the list. If you do not meet the criteria because you would not qualify for the Northwards Xtra draw you will need to reapply when your circumstances change.
