Domestic abuse

How other agencies can help

There is no right or wrong way to solve domestic abuse. We offer some choices as to how we can help, but you can get help from other agencies too.

Police

You can make a criminal complaint against the perpetrator. Contact your local police station, or Greater Manchester police on 0161 872 5050.

Solicitors

You can take legal action through the family court. A solicitor can advise on legal options like occupation orders, non-molestation orders, and residency orders. It can be very expensive but you may be able to get legal aid.

We can't recommend a legal company, but you can get more advice from the not-for-profit organisations listed under 'Legal Assistance' in our list of useful contacts.

Victim Support

Victim Support is an independent charity that helps people cope with the effects of crime. They provide help with things like criminal injuries compensation, and support for people attending court as witnesses. It's a free and confidential service.

Manchester City Council: the domestic violence outreach team

A free and confidential service, the team can advise on getting the violent person to move out, finding somewhere else to live, making a more secure home, and staying living in your home without the violent person. See City Council: domestic violence outreach team.
