Repairs you must do yourself

We must do certain repairs by law; on the structure of your home, on gas, electricity, plumbing, heating installations and so on. These repairs are free.

But there are other, smaller jobs that you must do yourself - although we will do many of them if you are elderly or disabled.

Examples of repairs you must do yourself.

We will do jobs marked like this [NH] if you can't do them because you are elderly or disabled.

  1. faulty fittings not put in by the city council (unless you have an agreement for us to maintain it) - such as cookers, fridges, showers, window blinds, window locks.
  2. discoloured plastic bath.
  3. surface cracks in basin or toilet.
  4. broken tidy-dry.
  5. hairline cracks in plaster.
  6. broken or missing edging on a kitchen unit. [NH]
  7. broken or missing smoke detector. [NH]
  8. broken clothes post. [NH]
  9. broken or missing plugs and chains for a basin or sink. [NH]

If you order one of these repairs, we will ask you to do the work yourself - unless the repair is marked [NH] and you are elderly or disabled.
