Sporting Memories is a new initiative bringing older sports fans together.

The National Football Museum came to Whitebeck Court, bringing memories and memorabilia to the residents of Charlestown.

Residents enjoyed looking through old newspapers and sharing their stories about famous football matches.

To kick things off they reminisced over the glory of England’s 1966 world cup win. The group shared their own memories of that special day.

They also talked about the Munich Air disaster which claimed the lives of Manchester United players in 1958. Several streets in Newton Heath were named in their honour.

The session ended with traditional match day grub –meat pie and Bovril!

Fancy joining in? The group meet once a fortnight at the National Football Museum.
