(the launch of the new yes centre at The Hive)
We’ve teamed up with the Co-operative Academy in Blackley to help local tenants find work.
yes, a social enterprise set up by ourselves and Manchester City Council back in 2013, has been open at The Hive in Blackley since the summer.
We first launched yes in Newton Heath, giving local people help and support to land a job, get training or set up their own business. It's been so successful that we've been able to start this new branch on Plant Hill Road, which is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 8.30am-4pm.
The new centre was officially opened by Blackley and Broughton MP Graham Stringer.
The Hive building was an empty adult education centre until it was revamped by the Co-operative Academy and turned into a hub to help support the local community and small businesses.
Academy principal Steve Brice said: “We want our students to see inspiring modern businesses on our doorstep and we want to contribute to the regeneration of the Blackley area as much as possible. In the future it would be fantastic if our former students were to launch their business here.”
Diane Roberts, chief executive of yes, said: “We are excited to bring our services to the area and look forward to supporting more local people into local jobs.”
