(The Socatechnix team after winning the ESF International Youth Festival of Football)
Did you know that you and your neighbours can get up to £500 for an activity or project that will benefit your community?
The money is from our Eric Hobin Community Sponsorship Fund, set up in memory of a much-missed local councillor and member of the Northwards board who died in 2007.
Success for young footballers
Last year, Jane Thurston applied to help fund a fantastic sports project in north Manchester. Through Socatechnix, she takes local youngsters to compete in European football tournaments.
Aged between eight and 14-years-old, the kids have enjoyed a lot of success; earlier this month, the under-11s team were crowned International European Champions in Paris after winning the ESF International Youth Festival of Football.
Jane said "These trips enable around 50 children to experience European football and make wonderful memories.
"The kids attend weekly training sessions with the help of many local parents who volunteer and dedicate their time.
"The money we got from the Eric Hobin Community Sponsorship Fund we put towards the overall cost of providing each of the children with a touring kit and rucksack."
