Did you know that you and your neighbours can get up to £500 for an activity or project that will benefit your community?

The money is from our Eric Hobin Community Sponsorship Fund, set up in memory of a much-missed local councillor and member of the Northwards board who died in 2007.

Make a splash

The fund has been supporting great ideas for years. For example, over the last 12 months, Troydale Tenants and Residents Association in Newton Heath used it to help pay for extra staff for their canoeing project. The scheme has made a big splash on nearby Rochdale Canal, encouraging lots of local youngsters to get paddling and enjoy the water.

And at Miners Community Arts and Music Centre in Moston (pictured), they used the money to buy equipment for their Media Hub, helping to create a place where local people can record music and make their own films.

Meanwhile, Unity Radio put the funding towards their Easter holiday taster sessions. These gave young people in Ancoats the chance to try things like breakdancing and aerobics while encouraging them to join their regular evening classes.
