Our retirement scheme managers are officially Dementia Friends

(All the scheme managers in our retirement schemes are now officially 'Dementia Friends')

As we get older, more and more of us will be affected by dementia.

Our loved ones may develop it or we may be at risk of getting the disease ourselves.

Our scheme managers had training from the Alzheimer’s Society to help them learn a bit more about what it’s like to live with dementia.

Bernie Carding, retirement housing manager at Northwards, said: "The training gave us a better knowledge of what it’s like for our residents and what we can do to help them live well.

"People can lose their short-term memory, for example, but their emotions are still there.

"They might not remember your name but they can remember how you made them feel.

"This workshop means that we can provide the best possible service to any of our residents who might have dementia. We can help support them, because we have more of an awareness of what dementia is and how it affects people."
