You and your neighbours can get up to £500 for activities and projects to benefit your community!
The money is from our Eric Hobin Community Sponsorship Fund, and we’re taking applications now.
The fund, set up in memory of a popular former member of the Northwards board, is open to anyone who either lives or works in north Manchester and is making a difference in their community.
One example is Tommy McDonagh, who runs the Collyhurst and Moston Amateur Boxing Club. We met up with him in December to see how he used the £500 we gave him...
This historic club has provided fun, fitness and opportunities for young and old for 100 years.
Last year they applied for a grant so that their volunteers could complete the Level One Boxing England Coaching Course.
“It’s keeping them out of trouble”
Tommy said: “Some of our volunteers are out of work, so getting the coaching qualification has been really motivating for them.
“Now they can actually train people - it’s keeping them in the gym and out of trouble!”
The club is open to anyone aged eight and over. The trainers all hold qualifications in boxing, fitness and first aid. To find out more, call Tommy on 07832 983 843.
